Microsoft has officially announced they ended support for Microsoft Phone 8.1 ,that arrived on the market in 2014.Windows 8.1 was the last version of Microsoft Windows Phone OS and the user won’t receive any form of support or update from Microsoft.
Microsoft already ended support for older versions like Windows Phone 8 and 7.x,ended in January 2016 and October 2014 respectively. Windows 8.1 alone runs on more than 80% of Windows phone handsets and latest decision of Microsoft is a serious blow to Microsoft phone users. However,99.6% of the smartphones runs either on Android or iOS.
While Windows 10 mobile remains support and update from Microsoft but the OS only cover less than 20% of the handsets on Microsoft mobile platform.
Microsoft effectively wrote off $7.6 billion concerning its 2013 takeover of Nokia. Microsoft announced their financial report on last week. Windows Smartphone only shares 0.3% of all smartphones sold across the world in last three months,according to recent figures
